Its Winter: How to use Evolution to understand your wellness

Take your time, connect to a community.
Take your time, connect to a community.

These are tips not a brand new early morning routine to smash winter, because I want to talk about the opposite, I want to talk about taking time, seeing the world around you, feeling the beat in winter, and reviewing, planning, regenerating. In our modern social norms we do not address a time to slow down, deadlines are still put in place, we are still cramming in modern time to somewhere it doesnt belong, we are still racing, still chasing goals, comparing, to yesterday, to others. I want to discuss an allowance to yourself and a time that doesnt give affordances to the above.

Lets get some tips that will merge what evolution and health suggest with modern life

Tip #1 - You need to rest!

There less daylight, its colder, yes way need to stay active but we should enjoy the rest at this time. The balance is shifting, our circadian rhythm, day/night cycle is altering. Its against everything natural to keep pushing and driving at this time. And it will lead you to SAD, because we are lead to believe that we should be full of energy at all times, that we should be achieving and that rest is wrong! Its a complete evolutionary mismatch!

Tip #2 - Keep connected

Its important to stay connected to a community, although your should be doing less, taking longer, having gaps..... we need to stay in our groups. Clubs, groups, gyms, going to work in a cafe, joining a weekly or daily group, where you become connected to people who are like minded. Where you can talk about random things, simply to talk, or to plan, or to simply be around other people. - remember like everything here, you might be tired of the socialising, be honest sometimes being around others just "doing" is what we need-

Tip #3 - Keep moving, but easier

Do some light strength training, slow, plenty of rest. Easy runs, walking, or a movement practice, like rope flow.

You don't want to stop, because you still need that movement to help create energy, and to keep the habit, but you can't maintain all guns blazing all year!

Tip #4 - Really feel, and understand yourself

If your feeling stressed step back, and review, refer to step 5. Body sore take it easier with your movement. Tired, get out into day light, low get your self connected. Burnt out be honest with what you can achieve this time of year.

Tip #5 - Review and Plan

Journal, draw, doodle, kanban. Its good to take stock whether for work, leisure, performance, fitness. Take the time to think through, it seems like all this stepping back might be costly, but its actually really good use of your time, and your battery. Its not stopping its just rebalancing the use, and it means you will not only be ready with energy but with the intelligence to achieve more next year.

Its about your Year in Full

Each Day as a cycle, and each week, and month, and year, and life! Winter is the time in the cycle to slow down, review the year, plan for Spring. The great news is you can actually still achieve a lot and give yourself chance to achieve so much more in Spring and Summer!
